Full Bust Lingerie Review: Tutti Rouge Sophia & Frankie

The Tutti Rouge Sophia in Mint
Tutti Rouge is entering their second season and new autumn styles will be available soon on their website, with Facebook hints that the first to debut will be a luscious berry toned Betty. However, my mind is stuck back in their feminine Spring/Summer collection and I still can't get over these two adorable mint sets. Colors like seabreeze blue, mint, and seafoam green were popular this summer and last and while a few full bust brands experimented with it (notably Curvy Kate's sold out Portia version), I hadn't had a chance to try out this trend. I finally have my mitts on two mint bras and now that I've also tried Tutti Rouge's Birds of a Feather, Liliana, and Betty, I have a solid understanding of how the Sophia and Frankie measure up.

The Sophia ended up being my favorite of the two which surprised me because I was expecting to prefer the Frankie. But the Sophia is a dreamy combination of textures and finishes; the satin base and straps are wonderfully complimented by the matte mesh of the top cup and the accent white lace breaks up the tone on tone design. The mesh behaves in the same way that stretch lace would, containing without restricting and it better conforms to individual shapes. For example, my breasts are slightly different sizes and the mesh evened the appearance out.

The Sophia offers more coverage than the other Tutti Rouge styles I've tried, but as you can see from the pictures, I still get a wonderful lift and gentle cleavage. I'd wear this under a v-neck t-shirt on an "everyday" basic because it's a nicely casual décolletage. I would say that the Sophia's fit runs differently from any of the other Tutti Rouge bras; it was quite full at the top so I needed to size down in the cups to a 28FF and while the band was firm, it wasn't tight like the others have been.
The Tutti Rouge Frankie in Mint
I was looking forward to the Frankie because I had heard from another full bust blogger that she'd loved it and she thought it was the best set from Tutti yet. The design had long ago won me over: I can't resist an underbust ruffle trim, I liked the popping color of the bow against the retiring pattern and there were matching tap pants (Swoon!). Unfortunately, Frankie and I were not a match made in heaven. My other Tutti Rouges are 28Gs, but when I tried that size the top seams pulled across the top of my boobs which pushed the uncovered tissue up and out. With the 28GG you see below, the fit was much improved, but the wires are now far to wide and the straps painfully pinched the skin beside and above my armpits. Like the Birds of a Feather, the Frankie left me a slightly "splayed" appearance to my bust and less lift than the Betty or Sophia.
If I could tailor the Frankie to fit me, I'd create that the cups were deeper at the bottom and in the middle, near the bridge or center gore. I would need narrower wires and the straps placed more towards the middle of the cups than the sides. With all the matching bottoms -- which are divine and definitely worth the investment! -- I was sized out. I'm consistently a US 4/UK 10 and the smalls were too loose, the briefs and brazilians haven't laid flat against my toosh. Since the look of the tap pant is supposed to be slightly baggy, it wasn't a problem with the Frankie's coordinate above.

I'm still a big believer in Tutti Rouge and I'm crazy excited about their Spring/Summer 2014 collection which I previewed back in August. The company's creative director, Jessica Prebble, has such a unique vision and contagious excitement for the dramatically frillier bits of lingerie. She's also entirely open to feedback and I've seen her respond personally to every Tutti Rouge review that's been published. Although my boobs didn't gel with the Liliana, Frankie, and Birds of a Feather, I'm confident that this brand has a lot of exciting things to show us in the future.

    1. Thank you, Mademoiselle Sweets! As you might know, I don't usually go for shiny stuff but I was won over this time. ;)

  3. I can relate to you on the fit of the 28GG Frankie--that's how pretty much every bra that fits in the cups is on me. It's sure pretty though, it's a shame it doesn't fit better.

    1. It was a bummer but I'm sure Tutti Rouge will work it out or leave it alone for the girls with a shallower, wider shape. :)

    2. I kind of wish they would tell us what shape each cut is designed for, rather than consumers finding out the hard way.
